Moving from Good to Great – Another skill for your portfolio
What else can you do to stand out amongst your peers and competition?
In addition to Building trust and Asking questions, you will want to add:
Pay Attention to Detail
Delivering error-free solutions or documentation proves to your client that you are thorough and can be trusted. Show your work with more detail at first. This proves that you have thought through the process completely.
Here are some things you can do to help you with this skill:
Get yourself organized – in work and personal life so you are not suprised when deadlines arise
Make Lists – This helps you stay organized and makes sure you take all those thoughts out of your head and put them on paper where they will stay in front of you, lessing your chance of forgetting something. Double check you have done everything before you submit anything.
Keep a consistent/schedule or routine – This trains your brain to identify more quickly when you have dropped the ball or forgotten something. Good sleep also helps your memory work anyway.
Limit Distractions – Annoying co-worker, internet, friends, family or even being hungry; these things can distract your brain allowing you to recall things easily and your’re more likely to forget the details.
Multi-Tasking – Unable to pay full attention to one thing. Rely on your list to help you understand what the higher priority things are so you can spend most of your time with these than the lesser priority items.
Exercise – Helps improve your memory and concentration abilities
Take Breaks – Gives your brain time to relax which helps it to remain sharp and willing to focus
Think positively. Increasing your attention to detail might result in:
Promotion at work
Landing that new client
Your relationships with family and friends may even improve
At school, attention to detail may translate into better work habits and opportunities.
Call to Action: I want you to take 2 items from the list above and start working on implementing these ideas and watch how these reflect in your work.
Continue to Grow…
