Phases of A Successful Implementation: #4 Solution Readiness
#3 Solution Readiness
Description
During this phase of the project, your IT teams and business teams will spend time testing the configuration and ABAP programming that was required to design the system per the blueprint. Testing plans for each of your business processes that may or may not be integrated with other areas will be used to facilitate this process. You will also want to test any independent technical requests or interfaces to other systems during this phase. Testing data loads will happen during this phase as well, making sure all data is transferring to the new system as desired. The goal of this phase is to make sure the systems are working as desired and as documented and signed off on from the blueprint phase of the project.
Key Activities
These are the activities individuals involved in the project should be expected to do during this phase.
- Testing
- Critical issue resolution
- Data extraction testing
Inputs and Outputs of the Phase
Inputs will be what information will be used in this phase and the Outputs are results expected during this phase.
Input: Configuration of the system
Input: Development objects for the system
Input: Business blueprint
Output: System designed ready for training
Output: End user training plan and documentation
Resources
These are the roles that should be expected to be involved during this phase. They should always be a part of the communication plan, but will be actively involved in this phase.

Common Problems during this Phase
- Poor Testing Scenarios: The system is only going to perform as well as you test it. And you are only going to get out of it what you put into it. So if you don’t think thoroughly through all the possible scenarios with your business and document a test plan for it, when it comes up after go-live the business will not be prepared with how to execute the process or understand how to use the system to help them. This causes a disruption to the business that can sometimes be remedied by a quick phone call, but more than likely a bigger issue that may take you back to the drawing board requiring system configuration or programming to get the job done.
My recommendation for you with Solution Readiness is to have multiple individuals in each area review your test plans to ensure your lists are complete. This will save you time down the road and guarantee your users feel confident moving forward with the project.
All the Best for your Project,
Stephanie
ABOUT
SL Smith & Associates became a firm in late 2014. It was a result of the owner, Stephanie Smith breaking out from working for SAP consulting firms and doing it on her own, convinced that the cookie cutter consulting the same way for every one was so frustrating and not getting the job done.
